Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger
On December 9, local area first responders were honored with a donation to their unit, a catered arrangement of sweets, and a gift bag for each person. Twenty-three different units were awarded with donations.
During the month of November, members were encouraged to sign up to win $500 in the home heating fuel of their choice. A member from each of our five locations was chosen at the end of the month.
To celebrate Maine Highlands FCU’s 50th anniversary, the Credit Union has been holding a different event each month for a year. October’s event was a Harvest Festival held at the Dover-Foxcroft Fairgrounds on October 15th. Several hundred people enjoyed a day of games, food, music and fun. Several games were offered, a barbeque lunch, and music by the Josh Guthrie Trio.

Maine Highlands FCU was on-hand to sponsor the 2016 Maine Red Hot Dog Festival held in Dexter on August 13th! Despite the weather, an estimated 3,000 people were on hand to celebrate Maine’s unique hot dog. Three giant inflatable obstacle courses and a bounce house was brought in by the Credit Union for kids of all ages to enjoy.
Congratulations to Jake Haffenreffer of Milo! Jake won $100 in Bike-Bucks from Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union. The Credit Union held a drawing in July for all members ages 3 – 13. Each CU branch drew a winner and Jake won in the Brownville branch. Other winners included: Dexter branch – Izzie Roberts, Guilford branch – Julia Munson, Dover-Foxcroft branch – Grace Greene, and Greenville branch – Ripley Roberts. Jake used his Bike-Bucks at Dover True Value Hardware to purchase his new bike.

Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union served breakfast to an estimated 275 people on Saturday, June 11 near the Guilford Memorial Bridge in Guilford. The Credit Union was celebrating their 50th Anniversary and the Town of Guilford was celebrating their Bicentennial. During the meal, donations were made to local area food organizations totaling more than $17,000.00. These funds were raised through various fundraisers the CU held in 2015.
James Santiago of Dover-Foxcroft was the winner of Maine Highlands FCU’s Road Trip Scavenger Hunt held during the month of May. The contest was held as part of the Credit Union’s year-long celebration of their 50th Anniversary. Members were encouraged to visit each of the Credit Union’s five offices and receive a different prize at each office. Then a winner was drawn from all who completed the journey within the month. CU employee, Tammy Creswell, who came up with the idea, presented James with a $100.00 gas card.
April 18, 2016, Maine Highlands FCU celebrated its 50th anniversary. The annual meeting was held at Factory One on Lincoln Street going back to its roots at the old Dexter Shoe factory. Members who opened accounts in 1966 (and still hold those accounts today) attended as special guests. Maine Highlands FCU also included a dinner catered by Perley’s Catering.
